Money Mantras of a Successful Wellness Pro

I was going through some old files today, and found this list of money affirmations I wrote from several years ago. It made me smile. Find one you love and have fun making it part of your daily "upgrade your  relationship with money" thoughts.

Money is my dear friend.

The value of my work is increasing rapidly in everyone's opinion.

It is OK for me to be very, very well paid.

I am grateful that my creativity provides me with an endless stream of practical ideas about increasing my income.

All shortages are temporary.

They are plenty of opportunities to serve people and increase my income.

I work for my pleasure and enjoyment and get paid very well just for being me.

I effortlessly attract more than enough money into my life, consistently and in a speedy manner.

I have a great relationship with money and money is my very good friend.

I know all that I need to know about money to create a fabulously successful and enriching life for me and my loved ones.

I deserve wealth and money and freely share its perks.

I treat money very well and it showers me its love in abundance.

I'm very good with money and I honor this relationship.

I have more than enough money in my life. It continuously overflows into my life.

Money loves hanging around me. It is very attracted to me.

I consistently receive calls and opportunities to effortlessly make money for just showing up, being me and doing what I most enjoy.

I'm very comfortable talking about money and having lots of it.

I am a financially successful business woman.

My wealth contributes to my freedom and my freedom contributes to my wealth.

It is fun for me to be a wealthy woman.

I have enough time, energy, wisdom and money to accomplish all my desires.

My income exceeds my expenses, whether I like it or not.

I forgive my parents for their financial problems.

I am now certain that there is enough for me.

Finding Your Voice Tip: The Making of a Steinway and Your Wellness Biz

Last night, I watched the PBS showing of Note by Note: The Making of Steinway L0137.

One of the most moving segments of this inspiring documentary was discovering that each and every Steinway has its own distinctive personality. (Who knew!?)

The tone, the feel, the look.…

Some have a quieter voice and others have a big booming sound fit for Carnegie Hall.

There are the Grand Concert Pianos that world-renown pianists choose (they start at $100,000).

And there are the smaller, family living room pianos that start at $25,000, with entire family units investing in for their child prodigy.

Each one highly valued by their respective buyer.

Yet even among the same type of pianos, each one has its own individual feel and plays slightly different.

It was fascinating to see famous performing artists – jazz, classical, big band – selecting their pianos for their shows.

They jumped from piano to piano, and when they found “their” piano, they exclaimed, “Ah, this is THE ONE!”

(They looked and sounded the same to me!)

Steinway attributes the different personalities in each piano to their unique, hand-made building process.

It takes one year to build a single Steinway.

And it takes an entire team of craftspeople to do it.

Each individual adds their expertise through a unique blend of technique and intuitive sense of what needs to be “tweaked.”

Steinway explains that each piano is impossible to build “perfectly,” because they are all different and that difference is what makes them special to each individual buyer.

This is where this show reminded me of you, the wellness professional.

While there may be hundreds, even thousands, of professionals offering a similar service to yours, there is only one you.

There is only one you that can deliver your service in your way, in your style, in your personality, and in your authentic voice.

And there are people in the world who are a perfect match to your “voice.”

The key to matching up with your perfect target market is to let your voice be heard.

Your voice will be “a perfect fit” for a specific group of people. And that means, your “voice” is not for everyone.

When you try to please everyone, you can’t really be unique yourself. And it dilutes your brilliance.

Instead, think of yourself and your work as a Steinway.

Absolutely perfect for a specific tribe of people (aka: “target market”).

Remembering that your programs, services and products will never be perfect is critical to making progress in your wellness business.

When you try to make things perfect, it takes years to get your website up, develop and market a program or to present your signature talk.

For some of you, it may take a little time to “find your voice.” (It takes a year to build a Steinway!)

For others, it’s about allowing yourself to express your voice. (There’s a deeply appreciative market for every kind of Steinway!)

I’ve been in both camps.

Forget about perfection.

Think progress.

Think completion.

Think be yourself.

Think Steinway and let your unique voice be heard.

That’s the only way you’ll match up with your ideal clients.

Here’s to your continued success,

Karin

Wellness biz tip: The secret to keeping your passion (and biz) alive...

Secret #8: R in Rockstar is for Repeat, Repeat, Repeat

Rockstars repeat what works, eliminate what doesn’t, and have rituals of professional renewal to be able to continue their successes. True Rockstars are here to stay.

Consider this...

Be Flexible About How You Get There

Are you gripping tightly to a business model that may not be the best fit for you?

An essential skill set in the wellness field is to be flexible in HOW your work shows up in the world.

When you keep an open mind, you’ll be able to see hidden opportunities in perhaps serving a specific tribe of people or under a different message that appeals to a more engaged audience.

Another way to think about this is to imagine what it's like to get a book published. Publishers know a lot about what sells and what doesn't. And let's say they want to put a different book cover design and title on your book then you had imagined.

A great book cover will grab people's attention and sell your book for you. A poorly designed book cover will get ignored. What’s inside the book is what you know, and that doesn't change. Would you be willing to change your book cover if it got into more people's hands? Or would you fight to make sure it fit your idea of what your book cover looked like?

Consider asking yourself this question: Could your vision for your private practice come to fruition in a different way?

It may look differently than what you imagined (it did for me and many of my clients).

Your willingness to be flexible in how your work gets expressed in the world is one of the keys to success.

Secret #7: A in Rockstar is for Attract

Rockstars know that action alone won’t cut it. They do the inner work in order to be in alignment with their vision and attract their successes.

Consider this...

You’re a Big Girl Now

I was an irresponsible twenty-something when I started my private practice. I had never experienced any kind of success of any kind. I had nothing to draw from. I was an average student.

Essentially, my business forced me to grow up. To learn how to handle money, to speak confidently, to claim what I wanted, to stop acting like a child and waiting for someone to rescue me, to start living on my own terms (instead of the shadow of my family’s expectations) or wishing mom or dad would take care of everything.

Whether you’re 47 or 27, taking your practice seriously can be a wonderful opportunity to see what you’re made of. And, to finally grow up.

Book writing and wellness biz tip: Should you do a compilation book (to get published)?

So a private client emails me this question last week...

"Karin, I've been invited to be an author in a compilation book. They have one more slot left and they have chosen me..." and she included the following details:

They have one spot left at this time, even though its been publicly "closed" and the publisher has followed up with me to see if would be interested in the last spot.

I would be one of 31 authors, each with his/her own chapter. The focus of the chapter would be my own story, related to the book's theme which is... (edited for privacy.)

If I choose to do this, I would have to pay them $1000 - $3000 depending on the "package" I want.

I would then have 30 days to write my chapter -- 1500 - 2000 words, submit a brief bio (150 words) with a website link and one headshot.

It would be published in the Fall, at the same time as two other compilation volumes.

What do you think? All thoughts, suggestions, cautions are welcome!

At some point in your practice, you will receive an invitation (aka "sales call") like this.

And you'll want to remember the following advice I gave my client so you'll know exactly how to respond.

Here's what I wrote her:

I'm never impressed with these types of books.

I understand how good it feels because it seems like you've been sought out and invited to do this project.

But the greater truth is that these publishers are sales pros and that's what they do.

They troll the internet for coaches, consultants and counselors and "invite" them to join their compilation book at the tune of $1000 - $3000.

And don't forget, part of the deal is that you purchase a certain amount of books in bulk, and you'll be responsible for selling them yourself.

I've seen quite a few people do this, and it didn't really do much for their business.

Here's when it's appropriate to say YES to participating in a compilation book.

1) The other authors in the book are super well known to YOUR tribe. (At least quite a few of them.)

2) The compilation series is super well known and admired by YOUR tribe.

3) It's a specific stepping stone opportunity to another opportunity that you really, really want.

4) Or it's YOUR compilation book, that you invite other authors to participate in, and you're the headlining author, and the book is designed to boost YOUR business.

Otherwise, your article is just one of many and gets lost in a book "various experts."

Even if the headlining author is Wayne Dyer.

(I've been a "invited" a few times to "get published with Wayne Dyer" for only $3000.) :)

I think writing and publishing your own book would have a much bigger impact on your business, credibility, and expertise then this one, and at far less of a financial investment.

That's what I think. :)

Here's what she wrote back:

Perfect! Exactly what I needed to hear!

Thank you!

So consider this when you receive the "invitation" (I mean sales call). And you will.

You'll know exactly how to decipher if it's the right opportunity for you.

Hope this helps!

Karin

Book writing and wellness biz tip: You don't need permission or approval...

Secret #6: T in Rockstar is for Tenacity

Rockstars have stick-to-it-ive-ness and find the adventure of working for themselves pretty darn thrilling.

Consider this...

You Don’t Need Permission

If you’re waiting for someone to give you permission, to approve of your ideas or to pick you out in a crowd, please understand: The world doesn’t work like that anymore. You don’t need anyone to anoint you before you step out into the world and share your expertise.

Understand that all the tools of the anointers of the past (talk show hosts, radio hosts, journalists, publishers and more), are now in your hands – and for free.

Once you understand that the new economy is about starting things, fixing things, creating things, and innovating, you can stop waiting for permission.

Get out there and start contributing to the solutions the world needs.

You can start by giving weekly presentations, writing regular blog posts, posting weekly videos on youtube.com or even submiting articles to publications that reach your tribe.

Start somewhere.

Be consistent.

And become a go-to person for the answers people want and need.

Make It Easy to Book Appointments (And Look Like a Total Pro)

When do people handle their personal stuff these days? For most, they do it in the evenings, after the kids are in bed. Are you around to schedule appointments then? Not if you have a life.

Make it easy to book an appointment with you at any time of day by getting an online schedule. It will force you to set clear work hours and set boundaries.

Plus, it will allow them to choose a time in your schedule at their convenience. This will help your clients take responsibility for their health, and avoid waiting to hear back from you to confirm an appointment.

I use TimeTrade.com and there are many others.

Hope this helps!

How writing a book can transform your wellness biz...

You know our Book in 90 Days program?

Well, here’s the thing…

Our program really isn’t about a book.

I know that sounds weird, but hang with me for a sec… Yes, it’s a wonderful feeling to be an author and the day you rip open that package to hold your finished book in your hands in a magical one.

The confidence boost and status upgrade from becoming an author make writing your book so worthwhile.

(Imagine what it will feel like when people ask you to autograph your book because people WILL ask you, I promise!)

But do you want to know what this book program is REALLY about?

Do you want to know what past authors have told us is the REAL BENEFIT of being part of this program?

Wait for it…. CLARITY!

This program is really all about clarity!

Clarity about what you REALLY do for people.

Clarity about your most authentic, compelling MESSAGE.

Clarity on your BRAND!

Clarity about your TRIBE (the people who WANT your stuff!)

Clarity about how you can LEVERAGE your book’s content to create an endless number of offerings (More books, workshops, coaching groups, teleclasses, videos, blog posts, and on and on…) and MAKE A GREAT LIVING doing WHAT YOU LOVE.

And clarity about what’s really possible for you.

Sure, one day a few months from now, you’ll open your mail and hold a copy of YOUR book in your hands.

A dream come true. But here’s the thing…

You cannot create a book without first getting CLEAR on what you want to say.

The process of creating a book will lead you to FOCUS and to make DECISIONS (things you very well may have been delaying) about where you want your business to go.

We’re here to guide you in the FOCUS and DECISIONS.

We’re here to give you all the resources you need to create a wonderful book.

But in the end, it’s SO MUCH more than that!

When you do this work with us, you’ll have written the bible for your BRAND.

Your book will be the guide for everything you do going forward.

It’s your template for future programs.

It’s your focus tool.

It’s your unique identity in a field of “sameness”… We’d love to be your guides for launching your book out into the world.

And we’d REALLY love to help you get CLEAR, because CLARITY is the real game-changer.

We hope you’ll join us.

We start in two weeks, on May 8th:

http://www.Bookin90Days.com/join

And you have about 6 days left to save $1000 off the tuition.

On May 1st, it returns to the full rate of $2,497. To your clarity,

Book writing and wellness biz tip: What fear really means...

I'm a big fan of listening to your gut wisdom when making decisions.

Whether you're considering joining Drew and I in our Write and Publish Your Book in 90 Days program or not, this insider tip will help you with any decision you're mulling over in your wellness biz.

What if you can’t hear your gut because you’re feeling the fear?

The fear that you might not be able to pull this off…

The fear that you might actually have a real impact with your book…

The fear that things will change for you.

Fear isn’t the problem.

If you’re a coach, consultant, wellness pro or solo-preneur of any kind, you gotta get used to feeling your edge.

That’s where the growth happens.

It’s not where you are cozy and comfortable.

So in this case, your fear is not a sign to turn back.

It’s a sign that it’s “game on.”

You want to listen to your fear, but you don’t want to obey it.

In my experience, your ability to handle this edge is so essential to your success.

Because the fear NEVER GOES AWAY. (Read that again!)

Every single time I try to do something new in my business it totally grabs me too.

Every time!

But now I know it’s just part of being self-employed.

I bet you no one ever told you that.

I keep breathing, hire coaches, read things about other successful people (all the time!) and I use the fear instead of letting it have its’ way with me.

It’s something you get better and better at.

But it is absolutely essential.

In fact, so much so, that when someone is considering working with me privately, I always give them a deadline to make a decision, usually much sooner than they would like.

They usually balk. But I don’t care.

I know what they don’t know. And that is, without the ability to feel their edge and not turn away from it, than we’ve got nothing to work with.

Remember, when you're self-employed and sharing work with the world that is so close to your heart and soul, fear isn't a sign to turn back.

It's just part of achieving your dreams.

Here's to making your dreams come true.

Come find out joining us in our next Book in 90 Days program is right for you.

Book Writing and Wellness Biz Tip: Stop convincing

Guest post by Drew Rozell, Ph.D. of VeryCoolLife.com

This morning I started writing you a message about our upcoming book program.

http://www.Bookin90Days.com/join

In the midst of my writing, my phone rang – it was time for a coaching call with one of the programs’ members about her book.  (Yep, members are already booking their coaching sessions with me to get a jumpstart on their book’s focus.)

We had one of those really wonderful conversations – the kind where you just feel a profound, energizing change taking place - and when we ended the call, she was thinking about her book and business in an entirely new way.

A simpler way. A better way. An EASIER way….

During our conversation, I offered her some core advice that I want to share with you now.

Stop trying to convince anyone.

Stop trying to convince them how good your idea is.

Stop trying to convince them of what you think they need to know.

Stop trying to convince them to be your client.

Stop trying to convince your friends and family that what you do is valuable or important.

Stop trying to convince people to sign up for your stuff.

And then sit down to express what you wish to share with the world in your book, do just that… Share!

Write with confidence. Write about what you love. Write what you know to be true. Write what you think is super-cool!

Don’t write about what you think people need (no matter how important you think it is… guess what… they don’t need it!)

Don’t offer up all the research and evidence to support your case.

Don’t direct your energy to the people who need convincing.

Do this for 2 reasons…

1) This will make your business SO MUCH easier…

2) There will be a quantum level change in the type of client you attract…

Think about it…. Do you want to spend your time working with the people who “need” your stuff, but don’t really want it?

Or do you just want to surround yourself with the people who really want what you have to offer? Got it?

Okay, back to the Book in 90 Days Program…

When I looked back at the message I was writing you this morning, there was a whiff of me wanting to convince you to be part of this program.

Hell, I can justify WHY I was trying to convince you – because I believe this to be the very best program of its kind and I know the value provided far exceeds anything we can even explain.

But the truth is, you either get it, get us, get what we’re offering here, and really WANT to join us…

Or you don’t.

Either is cool.

If you’re in the “get it” camp, all you have to do is to trust your inner YES response and ride that wave of certainty. (Even if it makes you nervous!)

So I remembered my own advice, trashed my original note to you and wrote this instead…

By now, you have all the information you need on the registration page and our free call here:

http://Bookin90days.com/Join

Finally, I will REMIND you that Saturday, April 21st is the last day to save an additional $200 on your registration.

We’d love to share this experience with you,

Karin & Drew
