Snow Day, Sick Day Marketing Plan

sickday.jpg

Guess what?

We had our first snow day this week.

And on a day with two 90 minute coaching calls.

Gah!

These are the days when I tell myself "I'm the worst parent" because these kids are going to watch some serious amount of TV today.

And in the next moment, I overhear my kiddos saying "This is the best day ever! We are going to watch TV today!"

So, who knows!?

Normally, my parents pitch in on snow days and sick days, but they're off to Florida for the winter.

In the spirit of navigating the inevitable snow days and sick days coming your way, here are a few of my best practices that prevent fits and starts in your marketing (and thus in your income).

Borrow any you like for your biz!

1Keep your favorite newsletters, blog posts or social posts in an easy to source file to resend. Send to your email list during the times when you just can’t write (or adult).  Send with a personal note about why you love it so much. (I'm doing this right now!)

Do one thing each day to create new business. Just one. Focus on making this consistent before trying to do more. That way if you have a sick a day or two or three, the compound effect of showing up for your marketing consistently is on your side and you need not worry.

For your one thing to work, it must be very focused and very targeted. This should either be one direct core marketing strategy (aka "get in front of new eyeballs" strategy - for most of my clients its giving talks, see GreatLittleTalks.com). If you speak to create clients, this might be following up with talk locations and potential clients and/or writing your newsletter. That’s it. That’s enough for a company of one.

Have client policies that cover the inevitable. IE a plan for cancellations (yours and your clients) etc that DO NOT result in you not getting paid and ensures clients are well treated if you have to move something around.

Have all clients in programs, not hourly pay sessions so you don’t take a $ hit with life uh-ohs. It also ensures you and your clients are in a committed work relationship and can get it done. Super important.

6 If you can hire help, then get help. Cleaning help, babysitting help, a virtual assistant, and/or a marketing coach :) to help you stay in the game. Sometimes you need this just for a season of life. There is always a way. If you want your business to support you and your family then you must show up for it too.

All of this makes you peaceful and profitable when you have a service business and a family life. (Or just a life without a team of employees to cover for you.)

Onward my friends!
